Jack
Jack is the five year old boy who lives inside a 11 by 11 foot room. He has been there ever since he was born. There is a few reasons why I do not think think this is the way a five year old should be living. First he is only five, and does not even know what the outside world looks like. He has never been anywhere else besides the room. A five year old to me likes to explore, imagination, and learn how to outside world is. But unlike Jack he does not get that option. He is stuck inside a random room everyday. He will not understand what to do if ever went outside the room, because he is so used to being in the room. The thing i do like is that he gets to spend so much time with his mother. They spend every single day together, and she is like his role model. They do everything together and he knows he is secure and safe with his mom. I like that the bond with Jack and his Ma is great because that is the only person Jack has, besides his father Old Nick but he does not get to see him. Ma is such a great person to Jack because she actually teaches him things, and they do what normal people do. Jack exercises, plays, and all the fun stuff a five year old likes doing expect he does those things in a complete different way. And the way he sees things are different than a normal five year old because they are used to being around a lot of people, and other kids. I just think Jack is missing a lot that a normal five year old does like getting to play with more than just his mom, have friends and have imagination.

I'll be interested to hear how your idea of Jack changes (or doesn't) during the second half of the book. I think you will have mixed feelings about many of your previous ideas. That's what makes this book so powerful!
